Overview
Jellyfin is a free software media system for managing and streaming your own media. It runs on a server you control and streams to apps on phones, TVs, computers and the web. It began as a fork of Emby and is built entirely by volunteers.
What it does well
Jellyfin organises your movies, TV shows, music and photos and streams them to any device, with no premium licenses, paid features or tracking. Apps are available for most platforms, and the server handles transcoding so media plays smoothly wherever you watch.
Why it’s in the collection
Jellyfin is the home media server with no strings attached: every feature is included for everyone, and your library stays on your own hardware. It is GPL-licensed and community-run.
