Overview
Home Assistant is an open-source home automation platform that runs on your own hardware, such as a Raspberry Pi or a local server. It connects the smart devices in your home in one place and keeps control and data local instead of in a vendor's cloud. It is developed by a worldwide community and backed by the Open Home Foundation.
What it does well
Home Assistant works with more than 1,500 integrations, so devices from many different brands can be controlled from one dashboard and app. You can build automations that react to events, times and sensor readings, and the modular design means new devices and services can be added as integrations. Live demos let you try it before installing.
Why it’s in the collection
Home Assistant is the reference point for a smart home you actually own: it keeps working without the internet and doesn't lock you into one ecosystem. Its community and integration library are unmatched.
