Overview
Brave is a privacy-focused web browser for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. It is built on Chromium, so websites and Chrome extensions work as they do in Chrome, and it blocks ads and trackers by default. The brave-browser repository holds issues, releases and the wiki; the source code lives in brave-core.
What it does well
Brave's built-in Shields block ads and trackers by default, and randomise your browser fingerprint, without any extensions. It comes with Brave Search, its own independent search engine, and offers optional extras such as a VPN and a crypto wallet. Being Chromium-based, it runs Chrome extensions.
Why it’s in the collection
Brave is the easiest switch from Chrome for people who want privacy without changing how the web works for them. It is MPL-licensed.
