Overview
Kilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent that works in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, the command line, a desktop app and the cloud. You choose from more than 500 models, can switch between them mid-task, and pay the model provider's rate with no markup, or use your own keys or local models.
What it does well
Kilo includes specialised modes for writing code, planning architecture, answering questions about your codebase and debugging, plus custom agents. It generates code across multiple files, offers inline autocomplete, checks its own work, and can run terminal commands and automate a browser. Automated code reviews on pull requests are also available.
Why it’s in the collection
Kilo combines a capable coding agent with open pricing: you see what each model costs and aren't locked into one provider. It is MIT-licensed and works in the editors most developers already use.
