Overview
Cline is an open-source AI coding agent that works in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, the terminal and a desktop app for macOS and Windows. It reads your project, edits files across the codebase and runs commands, with your approval at each step.
What it does well
Cline plans in Plan mode and executes in Act mode, shows every edit as a diff you can review, and keeps checkpoints so you can undo its work. It runs terminal commands and reacts to their output, follows project rules from .clinerules files, and isn't locked to one AI provider. Plugins and MCP servers extend it, and an SDK lets you build your own agents on the same engine.
Why it’s in the collection
Cline keeps you in control: every change can be reviewed and approved, and you choose the model and pay the provider directly. It is Apache-licensed and works in the editors developers already use.
