Overview
LosslessCut is an open-source, cross-platform app for extremely fast, lossless operations on video, audio and subtitle files, built on FFmpeg. Its main job is trimming and cutting large recordings, from cameras, GoPros or drones, without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and keeps the original quality. It runs on Mac, Windows and Linux.
What it does well
LosslessCut cuts and trims losslessly, merges segments or files with matching codecs, and adds, removes or extracts tracks such as audio and subtitles. It can change containers, for example MKV to MP4, without re-encoding, detect scenes, black frames and silence to split by them, and edit metadata, rotation and chapters. It opens almost any format, exports frames, and has keyboard shortcuts, a CLI and an HTTP API.
Why it’s in the collection
LosslessCut does one job brilliantly: cutting big video files in seconds without any loss in quality. It is GPL-licensed and translated into 26 languages.
