Overview
SiYuan is a privacy-first, local-first personal knowledge management system. It supports fine-grained, block-level references and a Markdown WYSIWYG editor. It runs on desktop, Android, iOS and HarmonyOS, and can be self-hosted with Docker.
What it does well
SiYuan has content blocks, databases, flashcards with spaced repetition, OCR, templates and multi-tab split-screen editing. AI writing and Q&A work through the OpenAI API, it can be customised with JavaScript and CSS snippets, and has an API and a community marketplace.
Why it’s in the collection
SiYuan combines Notion-style blocks and databases with Obsidian-style local files, which is rare in one app. It is AGPL-licensed.
