Overview
Zulip is an open-source team chat app with topic-based threading that combines the best of email and chat. Every conversation has a topic, so you can catch up on what matters and reply hours later without losing the thread. It is designed for both live and asynchronous work, and can be self-hosted or used in the cloud.
What it does well
Zulip's topics keep many conversations readable in the same channel, which suits remote and asynchronous teams. It is used by companies and by large open-source projects such as Rust, and is built by over 1,500 contributors who merge more than 500 commits a month.
Why it’s in the collection
Zulip is the most distinct take on team chat: threads by topic make it far easier to keep up than a single Slack channel. It is Apache-licensed.
