Overview
Actual Budget is a free, open-source, local-first personal finance app built around envelope budgeting. Your data lives on your device, and an optional sync server keeps changes in step across devices. You can run it as a desktop app on Windows, Mac and Linux, self-host it with Docker, or use a low-cost hosting service.
What it does well
Actual helps you assign every dollar a job with envelope budgeting, track accounts and transactions, and see reports on your spending. Sync between devices is optional and can be end-to-end encrypted. Community guides help you start fresh or migrate from other budgeting apps.
Why it’s in the collection
Actual gives you a fast, private budgeting app without a subscription, and you keep ownership of your financial data. It is MIT-licensed and community-run.
