Overview
CasaOS is an open-source personal cloud system with a simple home-focused interface, built around the Docker ecosystem. It runs on many kinds of hardware, from ZimaBoard and Intel NUCs to Raspberry Pis and old computers, and turns them into a home server. Its makers have since built ZimaOS, a NAS system that grew out of CasaOS.
What it does well
CasaOS has an app store with one-click installs for apps such as Nextcloud, Home Assistant, AdGuard and Jellyfin, and can install any of the many apps in the Docker ecosystem. It includes drive and file management for people without a technical background, and widgets that show resource usage and app status at a glance.
Why it’s in the collection
CasaOS makes self-hosting approachable: anyone can turn spare hardware into a personal cloud and install apps with a click. It is Apache-licensed.
