Overview

Chat2DB Community is a free, cross-platform database client for Windows, macOS and Linux with a built-in AI assistant. It runs entirely on your machine, and the AI features use a model you connect yourself. You can install it as a desktop app or run it in Docker and use it in the browser.

What it does well

Chat2DB connects to more than 40 databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Redis, Snowflake and BigQuery. It has an SQL workspace with completion, formatting, saved queries and history, plus metadata browsing, table management and in-place data editing. The AI assistant writes, explains and optimizes SQL from plain language, and it also offers data import and export, dashboards and charts, ER diagrams and an open-source CLI with MCP support.

Why it’s in the collection

Chat2DB puts an AI assistant directly into a full database client, using your own model, so you can query and explore data in plain language without sending it to a third-party service. Its license limits commercial use, explained below.

License

Chat2DB Community 5.3.0 and later uses its own license: Apache 2.0 with extra conditions. You can use and modify it for personal use, education and non-profit work, and inside your own company. Without written permission you can't offer it as a product or service to others, run it for clients, embed it in another product, or distribute installers or builds. Releases before 5.3.0 remain under plain Apache 2.0. Because of those conditions it isn't open source in the strict sense.
