Overview
CodeEdit is a code editor built by the community and written entirely for macOS, in Swift. It aims to give developers the native, fast feel of Apple's own apps for any language or project, instead of a cross-platform Electron editor. It is free and open source, and still in development, with pre-release versions you can try.
What it does well
CodeEdit includes syntax highlighting, code completion, project-wide find and replace, snippets, a terminal, task running, debugging, Git integration, code review and extensions. It aims to stay as lightweight as TextEdit while scaling up toward the features of a full IDE when needed, and it follows Apple's design guidelines closely.
Why it’s in the collection
CodeEdit is the only serious open-source code editor that is truly native to the Mac, and its community has committed to keeping it free forever. It is MIT-licensed.
