Overview
Hermes Agent is an open-source, self-hosted AI agent built by Nous Research. It runs in your terminal, in a desktop app, or on a server, and you can talk to it from Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp or Signal through a single gateway.
What it does well
Hermes Agent creates skills from experience and improves them as it uses them, keeps an agent-curated memory, and can search its own past conversations. It works with any model provider, including OpenRouter, OpenAI or your own endpoint, and switching takes one command. It includes a built-in scheduler for unattended automations, spawns subagents for parallel work, and runs locally, in Docker, over SSH or on serverless backends.
Why it’s in the collection
Hermes Agent stands out for its learning loop: it gets more useful the longer you work with it, and everything it learns stays in your own deployment. It is MIT-licensed, not tied to one model provider, and light enough to run on a small server.
