Overview
Insomnia is an open-source, cross-platform API client from Kong for GraphQL, REST, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, gRPC and other HTTP protocols. It runs on Mac, Windows and Linux. You can use it without an account in the local Scratch Pad, or create a free account for the full feature set.
What it does well
Insomnia lets you debug, design, test and mock APIs in one app, with a native OpenAPI editor, test suites, a collection runner and a CLI for linting and testing in CI/CD. Projects can be stored entirely locally in a Local Vault, synced to any Git repository, or synced to the cloud with optional end-to-end encryption. Private Environments keep secrets on your machine whatever storage you choose, and plugins extend it.
Why it’s in the collection
Insomnia is a mature, polished API client whose code is open, and it lets you keep your collections local or in your own Git repository. Its account requirement for most features is worth knowing about; the local Scratch Pad needs none.
