Overview
Kitty is a fast, feature-rich, cross-platform terminal emulator that renders with the GPU. It runs on Linux, macOS and various BSDs, and is built for people who live in the terminal.
What it does well
Kitty uses GPU and SIMD instructions and threaded rendering for very low latency. It supports images and animations, ligatures, emoji and variable fonts, and hyperlinks. Tabs, splits and multiple layouts are built in, it can be controlled from scripts and extended with Python 'kittens', and startup sessions describe your working environments. It created the terminal graphics protocol and other extensions that many terminals and tools now use.
Why it’s in the collection
Kitty is one of the most capable terminals available and has pushed the whole terminal ecosystem forward with protocols others adopted. It is GPL-licensed and actively developed.
