Overview
Zellij is an open-source terminal workspace for developers, ops-oriented people and anyone who loves the terminal; programs like it are often called terminal multiplexers. It is built around the idea that you shouldn't have to give up simplicity for power, so it works well out of the box and still offers advanced features. It runs on Linux, macOS and Windows, and can be tried without installing.
What it does well
Zellij splits your terminal into panes and tabs, including floating and stacked panes, and keeps sessions running in the background. Layouts let you describe a whole workspace in a file and open it in one step, and multiplayer mode lets several people work in the same session. It has a plugin system built on WebAssembly, and its built-in web client lets you open sessions in a browser.
Why it’s in the collection
Zellij makes the power of a terminal multiplexer approachable for people who never got comfortable with tmux. It is MIT-licensed.
