Overview
Alacritty is a modern, open-source terminal emulator that uses the GPU through OpenGL. It comes with sensible defaults but allows extensive configuration, and it focuses on performance by integrating with other applications rather than reimplementing their features. It runs on BSD, Linux, macOS and Windows.
What it does well
Alacritty includes a Vi mode for moving and selecting text with the keyboard, search through scrollback, hints for opening URLs and other text with the keyboard, selection expansion, clickable URLs and multiple windows. It is configured with a single file, and it leaves tabs and splits to a window manager or a multiplexer such as tmux or Zellij.
Why it’s in the collection
Alacritty helped kick off the wave of fast, GPU-accelerated terminals, and it stays deliberately minimal and quick. It is Apache-licensed.
