Overview
OpenWhispr is an open-source voice-to-text app for macOS, Windows and Linux that turns your voice into text, notes and actions. You can choose fully offline transcription with local speech models such as Whisper and NVIDIA Parakeet, or cloud models.
What it does well
OpenWhispr dictates into any app with a global hotkey, translates as you dictate, and includes a voice assistant that sends what you say to GPT, Claude, Gemini or local models. It detects Zoom, Teams and FaceTime calls to transcribe meetings with on-device speaker labelling, keeps searchable notes, and transcribes imported audio and video files.
Why it’s in the collection
OpenWhispr combines dictation and meeting notes in one app, with the option to keep every word on your own computer. It is MIT-licensed and actively developed.
