Overview
Harper is an English grammar checker that runs entirely on your device, so nothing you write is sent to a server. It is written in Rust, takes milliseconds to check a document and is small enough to run in the browser through WebAssembly. It is developed under Automattic.
What it does well
Harper uses less than 1/50th of LanguageTool's memory, according to the project, and treats slow checks as bugs. It works in Obsidian, in code editors through its language server (harper-ls) and in the browser. It currently supports English, with a core designed to add other languages.
Why it’s in the collection
Harper gives you grammar checking without sending your writing to anyone, and it is fast enough to use everywhere. It is Apache-licensed.
