Tolaria

Overview
Tolaria is an open-source app for managing Markdown knowledge bases, on macOS, Windows and Linux, with iPhone and iPad apps too. People use it as a second brain, to organize company docs as context for AI, or to store an AI assistant's memory and procedures. It is built by Luca Rossi of Refactoring, who runs a workspace of more than 10,000 notes in it.
What it does well
Tolaria keeps every note as a plain Markdown file with YAML frontmatter, so your notes work with any editor and need no export. Every vault is a Git repository, giving you full version history and any Git remote you like, with no dependency on Tolaria's servers. It works fully offline with no account or subscription, and its note types help you navigate without forcing a rigid schema. An AI panel lets you work with your notes using local agents or the model provider you choose.
Why it’s in the collection
Tolaria combines a polished note-taking app with the most future-proof storage there is: plain files in Git that you fully own. It is AGPL-licensed.
