Overview
Mailspring is a fast, open-source desktop email client for Mac, Windows and Linux, and a newer version of Nylas Mail maintained by one of its original authors. Its interface is written in TypeScript with Electron and React, and its mail sync engine runs locally on your computer. It works with Gmail, Office 365, iCloud and any IMAP account.
What it does well
Mailspring includes a unified inbox, multiple accounts, snooze, send later, mail rules, templates, Gmail-style search across all your mail, and calendar features. A paid Mailspring Pro subscription adds read receipts, link tracking, mailbox analytics and contact profiles. All of these features run in the client, so Mailspring does not send your email credentials to the cloud. Its plugin architecture makes it extensible.
Why it’s in the collection
Mailspring gives you a modern, good-looking email app that works across platforms and keeps your credentials on your machine. It is GPL-licensed.
