Overview
Mermaid is an open-source, JavaScript-based diagramming and charting tool. You write diagrams in a simple Markdown-like text syntax and Mermaid renders them, so diagrams can live in your documentation and code and change as easily as text. Non-programmers can use the free Mermaid Live Editor in the browser.
What it does well
Mermaid draws flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, Gantt charts and many other diagram types from text definitions. Because diagrams are text, they can be versioned, reviewed and updated alongside the code they describe, and generated from scripts. It is built into many tools and platforms that render Markdown.
Why it’s in the collection
Mermaid solves documentation rot: diagrams written as text stay up to date because changing them is as easy as editing a line. It is MIT-licensed and supported almost everywhere developers write Markdown.
