screenpipe website

Overview

screenpipe continuously records your screen and audio on your own computer and turns it into a searchable AI memory. It is available for macOS, Windows and Linux, and its makers now focus on helping companies map workflows and find work to automate.

What it does well

screenpipe captures what you see and hear, using the accessibility tree with OCR as a fallback, plus transcription with speaker labels. You can search your history in natural language, connect it to AI tools such as Claude through MCP, and build automations based on what you do. Captured data stays on your device by default.

Why it’s in the collection

screenpipe is the leading local alternative to cloud-based screen memory tools, and its source code is public to inspect and audit. Its license is restrictive, though, as explained below.

License

screenpipe uses its own commercial license and calls itself source-available, not open source. You can use, change and run the code at no charge for personal, non-profit, educational or research use, and to evaluate it for up to seven days. Any business use needs a paid license, and the official desktop app is sold separately.
