Overview
Aider is an open-source AI pair programmer that runs in your terminal. You point it at a new or existing codebase, describe the change you want, and it edits the files. It connects to almost any LLM, from Claude, OpenAI and DeepSeek models to local models.
What it does well
Aider builds a map of your whole repository, which helps it work in larger projects, and supports more than 100 programming languages. It commits each change to git with a sensible message, so you can diff or undo its work with normal git tools. It can lint and test after every edit and fix what fails, take images and web pages as context, accept voice requests, and react to comments you leave in your IDE.
Why it’s in the collection
Aider was one of the first terminal coding agents and is still one of the most transparent: every change lands as a git commit you can review or revert. It works with whichever model you choose and is Apache-licensed.
