Overview
tldraw is an SDK for building infinite canvas apps in React. It provides a complete canvas engine with a default whiteboarding tool set, or primitives for building your own experience. The team also runs a free whiteboard at tldraw.com built on the same code.
What it does well
tldraw includes self-hostable real-time multiplayer, pressure-sensitive drawing, shapes, rich text, arrows, snapping, image and video support and image export. A runtime Editor API lets you drive the canvas from code, and custom shapes, tools, bindings and UI components make it fully extensible. It renders with the DOM, so it can embed websites, and it has canvas primitives for building with LLMs. It works in any browser on desktop, tablet and mobile.
Why it’s in the collection
tldraw is the most complete canvas engine you can build on: Google, Shopify and Autodesk use it in their products. Its license requires a key for production use, explained below.
License
tldraw uses its own source-available license. You can use and modify it freely in development, but production use requires a license key from tldraw, and commercial use needs a paid license. Because of that it isn't open source in the strict sense. The free whiteboard at tldraw.com is a separate hosted app.
