Overview
Vector is a high-performance, end-to-end observability data pipeline that collects, transforms and routes logs and metrics to any destination you choose. It can run as an agent on each machine or as a central aggregator. It is written in Rust and maintained by Datadog's community open-source engineering team.
What it does well
Vector lets you collect data from many sources, transform it with its own Vector Remap Language, and send it to any combination of vendors, so you can switch tools or cut costs without re-instrumenting. It is built for reliability and speed, and the project reports it is up to 10 times faster than alternatives. Filtering, sampling and enrichment in the pipeline reduce what you pay to store.
Why it’s in the collection
Vector puts you in control of your observability data instead of your vendors, and can significantly cut logging costs. It is MPL-licensed.
