Overview
Tiptap is a headless, framework-agnostic rich text editor that you customize and extend through extensions. Because it ships without a user interface, you have full control over how the editor looks, and it works with React, Vue or plain JavaScript. Companies such as Notion, Substack and Nextcloud are listed on its site as users.
What it does well
Tiptap is built from extensions, with more than 100 available, from basic formatting to drag-and-drop block editing, and you can write your own extensions and nodes. For real-time collaboration it pairs with Hocuspocus, an open-source backend built on Yjs. Paid Pro extensions add commenting, versioning, document conversion and AI features. Templates such as a Notion-like block editor help you get started.
Why it’s in the collection
Tiptap is the go-to foundation for building a custom editor, from a simple comment box to a full Notion-style document, without fighting a fixed UI. The core is MIT-licensed.
